چکیده

The alcohol, consumed in great quantities and for a long period of time determines, directly or by its metabolites, serious alterations of the hepatic function and structure. The causal mechanisms underlying this disease are not fully understood. Histological features of chronic alcoholic hepatitis include: hepatocellular injury, inflammation and repair of the damage with activation of Kupffer cells and hepatocellular regeneration.

Determining the progression stages of liver fibrosis in patients with chronic hepatitis B

Introduction: Chronic hepatitis B (CHB) leads to liver fibrosis, its failure, and death in the long term. The stage of fibrosis in CHB patients can also be detected based on the biochemical markers. The aim of this study was to predict the state of liver fibrosis in CHB patients and determine the possibility of patients shifting from a given state to another one. Materials and Methods: This stu...

Diagnostic utility of laboratory tests in alcoholic liver disease.

Alcoholic liver disease is an important health problem in the US. A public health approach is proposed, using laboratory tests to identify patients with early fibrosis of the liver. A variety of serological markers of liver fibrosis based on collagen-related products (e.g., amino-terminal propeptides of type III procollagen) have been investigated. Further studies are needed to determine the op...

Hyaluronic acid as a biomarker of fibrosis in chronic liver diseases of different etiologies

Chronic liver diseases represent a significant public health problem worldwide. The degree of liver fibrosis secondary to these diseases is important, because it is the main predictor of their evolution and prognosis. Hyaluronic acid is studied as a non-invasive marker of liver fibrosis in chronic liver diseases, in an attempt to avoid the complications of liver puncture biopsy, considered the ...

Toll-Like Receptor Signaling and Liver Fibrosis

Liver fibrosis occurs as a wound-healing scar response following acute and chronic liver inflammation including alcoholic liver disease, non-alcoholic steatohepatitis, hepatitis B and C, and autoimmune hepatitis. Myofibroblasts, mainly transdifferentiated from hepatic stellate cells, are pivotal cell types that produce fibrillar collagen. The activation of inflammatory cells, including Kupffer ...

Serological markers of hepatitis B in patients with alcoholic liver disease: a multi-centre survey.

In a study of 195 patients derived from five centres in northern Britain and with histologically confirmed alcoholic liver disease we have found an increased prevalence of serological markers of hepatitis B. This increased prevalence was found in each of the five centres; the overall frequency ranged from 11% sero-positivity in fatty liver, 12% in alcoholic hepatitis and 27% in cirrhosis.
